Books are Enough

The Power of Free, Self-Selected Reading

Death of a Friend

Inspired by Alexander Pope’s “Rape of the Lock”

I offer my first poem in the form of a mock epic.

Death of a Friend

Oh my dear friend I loved you so

Full of life, bursting with flavor

Creation of man, fated to doom by my hands

Times with you I did savor

I did not take care and watch you grow

My reaction was too slow

How I loved you though

I let you burn, I let you die

From brown to black

My sweet, sweet apple pie
