I just noticed that every student I have had in class with a stammer also had poor – illegible- handwriting. I can only base my information on a few students but wonder if there is a connection.
Usually, there are not many students who stammer. You must have an unusual occurrence. Poor handwriting in young children, especially in boys, is often developmental. With teaching, practice and time that should improve. Some children have multiple signs such as fine and gross motor difficulties, along with speech/language and learning difficulties. Ask parents for developmental history and involve speech and OT to consult with you. Psychologist consult if more severe.
Thanks for the comments. These kids I have worked with are 16 and 17 years old.
