The Power of Free, Self-Selected Reading

More Florida Required Testing

Each student taking ANY computer test in Florida (and there are a lot) must take a “practice” test. Each student must do one of these for EVERY different test.  Some students will be forced to miss class three or four times just to engage in this insanity. It takes between 30-45 minutes each time.

Here is one EPAT memo from a district in Florida about these tests. What an utter waste of time and money. Computer testing is hardly optimal for reading long periods of time. There are no real ways to engage with the text. This especially hurts ESE and ELL students.

Florida is actually increasing testing with End of Course Exams- with required diagnostic testing for each one. Common Core will increase this more. When will this insanity stop?

Did you really think Rick Scott was serious about less testing?
