The Power of Free, Self-Selected Reading

How bad is testing in Florida?

Due to the massive testing required by the state of Florida, the high school principals in at least one district are requesting that each school be budgeted a full position for a “testing coordinator.” This position has nothing to do with helping kids but it is an admission that testing is out of control.

It is ironic that the high school principals in Palm Beach County are demanding a teaching unit be used for testing. These same principals refuse to demand a unit be given to each school for graduation coaches and or literacy coaches. You know, positions that would actually help our neediest students.

The testing will only grow since the state has an addiction to forking over millions to testing companies and consultants. Common Core is a test driven mandate that will cost about one billion dollars to implement- in year one alone.

Graduation and literacy coaches save lives. Testing coordinators feed the educational testing complex.
